"If you want to know who we are..."

Every Monday night the rehearsal rooms at the Carriageworks Theatre resound to the harmonies of Leeds Gilbert & Sullivan Society, an eclectic group of personalities made up of bon viveurs, epicureans and melodists. This multifarious throng come together every September to start rehearsals for their March performance of one of Messrs Gilbert and Sullivan’s excellent works, with the aim of not only performing the music, but also being able to move about the stage at the same time.  Their professionalism knows no bounds.

Members come from all walks of life, and from all four Ridings. Some tread the boards and others work backstage, as crew, makeup, costumes, front of house and Production Team.  Those on stage span the years from 13 to somewhere north of 70, and every age in between.  As well as being the zenith of the Society’s year, Show Week is also the social event of the season, providing the perfect excuse for camping it up in silly costumes and laughing about it in the bar afterwards, with meals out, President’s Night and parties conspiring to drain the last ounce of energy (and cash) from every member.

We welcome new members in any capacity so if you fancy yourself as a Frederic or a Phoebe, want to cavort in the chorus or prefer to be based backstage, we’d love to have you!

We're just putting the finishing touches to our next production, The Mikado, which is at The Carriageworks 6 - 13 March 2010.  Check out the Next Production page for details.

100 Years!

We are very proud that the Leeds Gilbert and Sullivan Society celebrates its One Hundredth Birthday this year.  We haven’t had a telegram from the Queen but we have received a letter of congratulations from The Lord Lloyd Webber!

In the presence of the Lord Mayor of Leeds the Society will celebrate this great achievement at a Civic Reception in Leeds Civic Hall Banqueting Suite on Saturday 7 November.

Our special Centenary Production of The Mikado will take place at The Carriageworks from 6th – 13th March.  Please contact our Business Manager for further details – business@leedsgands.org.uk
